Local Immersion
Our excursions are unique to Playa Viva. We work with locals to give you an opportunity to engage with the local environment and community in a way that honors them. We have a range of activities for whatever you seek— whether you want to indulge in the beauty of nature, integrate into our local culture, rejuvenate your spirit and body, or adventure in our tropical paradise. See a few example excursions below.
Sierra Mountain Tour
Ride an ATV up the watershed to visit a family that lives off the grid in the mountains. They grow everything they need to live, including coffee and cacao. This lovely family will provide a tour of their farm and then invite you to join them for an early lunch.
Baby Sea Turtle Release
Just a 10‐minute stroll down the beach, you’ll find “La Tortuga Viva” or “the Living Turtle.” The all-volunteer team patrols the beach in front of Playa Viva at night to collect and protect turtle nests (see separate Turtle Night Patrol Activity). After a gestation period of around 45 days, the baby turtles hatch and are released. You can release baby turtles as they instinctively scamper into the waves toward their new lives of roaming the open ocean. Nests hatch throughout the year. Turtles are released in either the early morning or around sunset to avoid predators.
Snorkeling Boat Tour
Take a boat from the beautiful Zihuatanejo Bay to a remote coral reef with calm waters, a white sand beach and plentiful aquatic life. No snorkeling experience is necessary; your guide, Paco, will be in the water with you giving tips and pointing out the wonders below. Face masks, flippers and lifejackets will be provided, as well as water and juice. The boat is covered, so those sensitive to the sun will have plenty of shade.
After visiting the coral reef, the boat will tour the perimeter of Zihuatanejo Bay, where you’ll discover great views of La Ropa Beach and the city of Zihuatanejo. At your option, we can stop in town for lunch and enjoy a few cold cervezas.

Due to price fluctuations, all Johanny Adventure Excursions can only be purchased on site at Playa Viva based on the published rate on the Excursion Sheet on the day of booking.
