Recipe for Radiance grew out of Sadie Kaufman’s life-long passion for exploring the individual meaning of sustainability. As a nutritional coach, specializing in Metabolic Typing, and certified Ashtanga yoga teacher, she believes that environmental awareness begins with concern for our most immediate natural resource: vibrant physical health.
Why Metabolic Typing? Raised vegan and macrobiotic, by very health-minded parents, Kaufman always assumed that her diet was the basis of good heath. But her health didn’t cooperate. Starting with anxiety and rashes in childhood, and a hormone imbalance in adolescents, she always seemed to be struggling with some health issue or other. Visiting one specialist after another, she was given countless prescriptions and remedies, but never exposed the root of the problem. And the problems continued to get worse.
Finally at 25, with a list of complaints including irregular periods and erratic energy, she found herself in an Endocrinologist’s office reviewing results from a battery of blood tests. What had long been dismissed as “irregular hormones,” or fatigue was actually a much more serious problem. Extremely high cholesterol and triglycerides, high insulin levels…a diagnosis of early Type 2 Diabetes, a problem that was 100% diet related.
Shocked to have such a diagnosis as a young, heath-conscious woman, Kaufman was determined to get to the source of the problem and heal herself without drugs. If food was the problem, it must also be the solution.
Now, eleven years and mountains of research later, she has eliminating her own problem with early Type 2 diabetes and has dedicated her life to helping others heal themselves with food. Sharing the breakthrough science of Metabolic Typing - learning to balance macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) for one’s unique metabolic type, Kaufman helps individuals heal from chronic ailments while maximizing their longevity.
Raised, on The Farm, one of the largest intentional communities in the US, she now lives with her family and teaches in Huehuecoyotl, one of Mexico’s oldest eco-villages.
